What is Alpha?

We believe that everyone should have the chance to explore the Christian faith, ask questions and share their point of view; wherever they are in the world. Catholic Alpha offers the opportunity to do just that – in an informal, friendly and open environment. It has been discovered over the years that if guests are treated with hospitality and allowed to to be themselves, lives will be transformed.

The Catholic Alpha Course is open to everyone interested in exploring the meaning of life and discovering the relevance of the Christian faith. It is a series of talks. Each talks looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation, as more and more people found it a helpful and informal way to discuss questions about the Christian faith.

Format: A simple meal is shared together at the beginning of each session – which gives people an opportunity to get to know each other – followed by a video talk leading into small group discussions.

Why do the Alpha course?

People come on the Alpha course for many different reasons; some have never been to Church and want to investigate whether God exists, others may have attended Church and want to further explore the relevance of the Christian faith to their daily lives. Listen, learn discuss and discover. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile.

Are there any cost? There is no charge for the Alpha course. A voluntary contribution towards the cost of food on the evening would be much appreciated.

Today, more than 20 million people have participated in the Alpha course. Alpha is supported by all the major Christian denominations. All Alpha programs have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.
